I.

General Summary of Overall Responsibilities

Reports to the Recreation Manager and Director of Parks and Recreation to perform administrative and supervisory duties, and directing all phases of assigned recreation programs and special events. To provide a total recreation program that will serve and meet the needs of the community with both active and passive activities. Will be evaluated through observation, conferences, and written evaluations. Exercise direct supervision over part time, volunteer and seasonal staff.

Listing of Individual Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, schedule, market, and supervise a variety of programs, activities, and special events for the community.
  • Supervise or work programs and special events over nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Coordinate facility and equipment use for programs and assist with set up and tear down for all activities within department. Keep an    accurate inventory of items needed for programs, and replenish or replace when needed.
  • Produce flyers for programs and special events by using all available resources including graphic software programs, digital camera, etc.
  • Officiate, supervise, or keep stats for all programs when assigned person does not show up.
  • Update specific programs with league info, schedules, and standings.
  • Solicit and procure alternative revenues from local businesses for various programs and special events.
  • Respond to suggestions and complaints in positive and professional manor.
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate numerous part-time and season staff. Recruit, train, monitor, schedule, and evaluate officials and coaches for recreation programs.
  • Participate in the preparation of assigned budgets, submit purchasing orders, and monitor budget expenses throughout the fiscal year.
  • Compile and submit detailed participation, expenses, and revenue reports for assigned programs.
  • Work closely with other members of the City Staff to assist with their events and coordinate activities.
  • Purchase supplies, materials and equipment for all assigned programs and special events.
  • Assist the Director with long range planning and goals for assigned events/programs.
  • Occasionally attend board meeting to keep updated on current events.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities; attend workshops, conferences and classes to increase profession knowledge.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge and Training Required

Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, or a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. Minimum computer skills required for Word, Excel, and Outlook. Effective communication (oral and written) and public relations skills. Ability to interact with tact and diplomacy. Valid driver’s license from state of residence. Ability to plan and expedite recreational programs and activities for all age groups. Ability to hire, train, and supervise staff. Must have

C.Y.S.A. certification or obtain it within 12 months. C.P.R.P preferred.


IV.

Environmental Conditions

The following environmental conditions are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The majority of the work is performed inside under normal office conditions, and the remainder is spent at external facilities (e.g. sports fields, gyms, etc.) under varying conditions. Mobility to and from various work areas and external facilities is required. The office work involves movements that include sitting, standing, stooping, and reaching. Work at external facilities may involve repetitious bending, reaching, standing, and stooping. Moderate lifting is required (average of 50 pounds). The noise level is normal for an office work environment and varies when working outside or at external facilities. Effective vision (near and far) is required. Evening hours and weekend work will be required as needed.
