Essential Functions

- Monitors and supervises facility and visitors for safety and potential issues; defuses confrontations or problems.
- Prepares and monitors budget.
- Answers phone; resolves customer complaints and questions; provides program information.
- Supervises part-time employees and volunteers; delegates daily tasks and responsibilities to staff; delegates and/or performs cleaning tasks.
- Promotes center activities and programs; organizes and implements special events.
- Schedules rentals and collects fees for facility use; completes appropriate paperwork.
- Secures and schedules sports officials, scorekeepers, on-site supervisors, etc.; creates practice and game schedules.
- Researches funding sources for programs, special events or the facility in general.
- Hires and trains concessions workers and managers; schedules concessions staff; orders supplies including T-shirts for staff.
- Places youth participants on teams; schedules practices; orders uniforms; secures and schedules officials, scorekeepers and supervisors; answers questions and supervises on game days.
- Oversees maintenance and cleanliness of facility.
- Must have regualr and predictable attendance.
- Must have the ability to work cooperatively with others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the operation of a major recreation facility; thorough knowledge of indoor and outdoor athletics and related rules and regulations; general knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation planning, programming and operations; ability to maintain order in a public facility; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with coursework in recreation, marketing, public relations, business or related field with certifications as indicated in the Special Requirements section and moderate experience in recreation or sports management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; worker is frequently sitting and speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms; work has no special vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to other accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; worker is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic).
Special Requirements
CPR and First Aid certification.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of Tennessee.
